05 Mar Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update – Important Information from the Brighton Recreational Centre
You will be aware of the emerging outbreak of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The Australian Government has advised that there is no cause for alarm with respect to the coronavirus and that the risk to the Australian public remains relatively low. The Victorian Education Department has also sent advice to schools advice to mitigate any risk and our Centre is aligning ourselves to that advice.
For staff, gymnasts and participants at the Centre who experience flu-like symptoms AND have recently travelled to China, Iran, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea or Thailand or had close contact with a confirmed case parents are advised to:
- seek medical advice for any children in your care who experience fever and respiratory symptoms (including but not limited to cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, body aches or fatigue) AND have recently travelled to these at-risk countries or had close contact with a confirmed case in the 14 days before of the onset of illness. Call ahead to notify the medical practitioner of recent travel; and
- inform your child’s school who will make contact with the Department of Health as mandated. Our club may also contact the Department of Health if needed.
In the meantime our Centre will be promoting good hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing with a tissue, or cough into your elbow, dispose of the tissue into a bin and then wash your hands afterwards. Wash your hands regularly, after using the toilet, and before eating.
We will reinforce this message with children, gymnasts and participants and be vigilant in monitoring their health.
