COVID-19 Protocols

You’re in safe hands – here’s what we are doing to protect you

Below are the protocols we have set in place to ensure that the Brighton Recreational Centre is COVID-Safe and the health and safety of our community and staff is protected.

Health and Safety

Health precautions and risk mitigation is a high priority. Our health and safety measures include (but are not limited to):

  • Before reopening, the Brighton Recreational Centre has been fully cleaned and staff have been briefed on health and safety best practices and protocols.
  • Regular hand washing with warm water and soap will be promoted.
  • Hand sanitiser will be available at all entry points and in every room throughout the Centre.
  • Full cleaning of bathrooms will occur daily, with regular spot cleaning undertaken throughout the day.
  • High touch areas will be thoroughly cleaned regularly, including door handles and equipment.
  • Our Kitchen will not be accessible, students and patrons are asked to bring their own pre-filled water bottles and tea/coffee.

General Hygiene Practices

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.
  • Patrons will be asked to use hand sanitiser prior to entering the Centre.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home and seek medical treatment when you are sick.
  • Cover your mouth with your elbow to cough or sneeze.
  • No high fives, hand shakes, hugging, sharing of water bottles or other physical contact.
  • Any student that has any underlying health conditions or is considered a vulnerable person, should consult with their healthcare professional prior to returning to their class.
  • You must not attend the Centre if in the past 14 days you have been unwell or had any flu-like symptoms or have been in contact with a known or suspected case of COVID-19.

Social Distancing

Students, teachers, coaches, staff and parents over the age of 18 must maintain social distancing of 1.5m at all times. Where possible, furniture placement and learning spaces will be modified to support physical distancing.

Class Sizes

The Centre will be adhering to the State Government’s current guidelines which permits group classes at community centres to run, provided there is no more than 10 people in each separate space, in addition to those required to operate the facility and density requirements are complied with.

In regards to our school age gymnastics classes, we will be allowing up to 20 students in the gymnasium at the one time.

Arrival & Departure Procedures

Entry in and out of the Centre will be via the main entrance on Outer Crescent. We ask where possible, that you enter via the stairs and exit via the ramp. Please ensure that you arrive no earlier than 5 minutes prior to the start of your class and leave the Centre immediately after your class has finished.

School aged Students

Parents/carers will not be allowed to enter the premises, unless your class requires parent participation. A ‘drop and go’ approach will be required. Your child’s teacher/coach will meet your child at the main entrance and escort them to their class and return them to the main entrance at the end of their class. It is essential your child and teachers/coaches are aware of their collection point at the end of their class.

Any equipment used throughout the class will be wiped down before and after each use.

Change rooms

There will be no access to Centre change rooms or wet areas for students to change clothes etc. We recommend all students come to the Centre ‘ready to go’. Toilets within the Centre will remain open.
