Wheel Throwing Class

This course is for beginners with little experience throwing on a wheel. You will learn the fundamental skills of clay preparation, using a wheel, centering clay, how to throw basic forms, trimming and glazing. If you’re not ready to enrol for the term and want to dip your toe in, we recommend booking into one of our Intro to Wheel Workshops.

The class covers all materials including 10kg clay, tools, glazes and firing of 6 pieces per term.

Hand Building and Wheel Class

This course is for both beginners and intermediate students and offers hand building and pottery wheel throwing skills and techniques for pottery making. Wheel throwing will only be available to intermediate and advanced wheel throwers or for students who have undertaken at least two terms of the beginner wheel class.

The class fee covers all materials including 10kg clay, tools, glazes and firing of 8 pieces per term.

Intermediate to Advanced Pottery

This course is for intermediate and advanced students and offers hand building and wheel throwing skills and techniques for pottery making. *Wheel throwing will only be available to intermediate and advanced wheel throwers or for students who have undertaken at least 2 terms of the beginner wheel class.

You will develop your skills through more complicated forms and surfaces. We will explore how to decorate surfaces of different clays using a range of finishes like glazes, under glazes and textures.  The class includes all materials clay, tools, glazing and firing.

• Weeks 1-4 – Planning and making vessels and sculptures
• Week 5-6 – Skills based workshops
• Week 7-8 – Experimentation time
• Week 9-10 – Glazing application workshop

This class is structured as heavily instructor led, with some class time set aside for your own experimentation with your new skills.
