This beginner‑friendly class for adults introduces the essential principles of drawing and painting, with students of all skill levels welcome. Throughout the course, you’ll explore core techniques including:
Composition – understanding how objects relate to each other and the surrounding space.
Proportion – using simple measuring methods to accurately compare shapes and ratios.
Light and Shadow – studying light sources and learning how linework and gradients create the illusion of three‑dimensional form.
Botanical Detail – observing natural forms and translating fine details into your artwork.
Colour Theory – exploring the colour wheel, primary and secondary colours, and colour saturation.
Practical Use of Colour – applying warm and cool colours, and understanding contrast in realistic painting.
Classes begin with pencil and charcoal sketching before progressing to coloured pencil and paint. Each week offers a new focus ranging from still life to botanical and anatomical studies, allowing you to gradually build confidence and skill.
These sessions are relaxed, supportive, and full of guidance. Students are encouraged to explore different techniques and artistic styles and to develop projects that spark their personal interest.
