This course develops essential watercolour techniques and colour theory for Beginners and Intermediates while supporting personal artistic development. Students will explore brush handling, washes, glazing, masking, lifting, paper preparation, color mixing and compositional strategies. Topics include still life, flowers, landscapes, urban scenes, birds/animals, reflective surfaces, abstracts, figuratives/portraits. Students will also work on individual projects and critique progress on progress and studio pieces.

Materials list (please bring along to your first class)
- Watercolour paints: student-grade acceptable (primary red, blue, yellow, plus Payne’s grey or black, burnt umber)
- Brushes: rounds (sizes 2, 6, 12) and a flat wash brush
- Paper: 140 lb cold-press or 300 gsm watercolour paper
- Masking tape or painter’s tape; masking fluid (optional)
- Kneaded eraser; pencils (HB, 6B); eraser
- Water containers; paper towels; palette with mixing wells
